Magic Potions: How to Use Potions in Clash of Clans

The idea of Magic Potions: The Beginning

Nothing in the game of Clash of Clans was as eventful as the year 2017 in terms of grabbing the eyeballs. Of course, the introduction of Clan Wars in the game was a huge step toward bringing the game to life. Soon Clan War became the beating heart of Clash of Clans. Therefore, it’s only fair to say that nothing can precede the aura of Clan Wars in the game. But still, there were clashers who would every now and then cringe about the slowness of the game. I remember the time when one Dragon would take 30 minutes to cook. Just put yourself in the shoes of a Clan Leader for a moment how difficult it would be to manage a successful clan war. Anyone except a loving leader would hate donating one Dragon to his/her clanmates. So, all I would say is it was long due without a doubt. First, it was Builder Base on May 17, 2017 and then the introduction of Magic Items subsequently.

Magic Items or Magic Potion:

Yeah! You read that right. It was called Magic Items and not Magic Potions. However, we are gonna restrict ourselves to all the potions, their workings, advantages and usefulness in the game in this article. The Winter of 2017 saw the introduction of Magic Items namely Book of Building, Book of Fighting, Book of Spells, Book of Heroes and Book of Everything. They were called Magic Items because they acted like some magic. What a builder could do in 15 days, the Books could do just that in a jiffy. Soon enough various potions were added to the game as it was the need of the hour.

Potions in a Nutshell:

While Books on the one hand magically and instantaneously used to finish any ongoing troops/spells/heroes upgrade, the potions, on the other hand, would boost army or resource production, and increase the efficiency of Barracks/Spell Factories/WorkShop and boost troops into Super Troops, etc. You can’t have more than 5/5 potion of each kind in your hall unless you purchased them from Shops.

Types of Potions, their Workings and Usefulness

There are currently 8 types of Potions in the game. They are as follows :

1. Super Potion:

This is the most sought-after potion in the game. Although there is an alternative to this potion in the game that is with Dark Elixir you can boost certain troops into its Super Version for 3 days. However, the Super Sauna arrives only at Town Hall 11.
The potion saves you 25K Dark Elixirs.
You can always use up to 2 Super Troops at a time
Super Potion was added in the 2020 Winter Update.

How to Use Super Potion in COC?

Follow the below instructions to use COC Super Troops in the game.

Go to Super Sauna located between the Trader and the Loot Cart.
Tap on the Super Sauna and you will see a list of troops.
Only the highlighted troops can be converted into their Super version.
Once you’ve decided the troop(s), simply click on it and you are given two options.
On the bottom left you have the option to use the Super Potion. Of course, you have the 25K Dark Elixir option on the right of the potion as well. Select the Potion Bottle.
And you should see the option to confirm the ‘Boost’. And it’s done.

Why I can't use the Super Troop Potion..

You won’t be able to boost a troop into its Super Version if you have too many different types of Super Troops trained already or in training.
You will need to remove those troops first to make way for other Super Troops.

2. Power Potion:

This strong-aromatic magical brew can boost anything like troops, spells and Siege Machines to the max level allowed by the laboratory of the corresponding Town Hall.
This potion works for 1h.
It works in both villages i.e., Home and Builder Base villages.

How to Use Power Potion in COC?

Once you’re ready, follow these instructions to use COC Power Potion:

First, select your Town Hall building.
Secondly, select Magic Items
Thirdly, choose the Power Potion option
Select the Use button and confirm the Boost Troops and Spells prompt.
You’re all set, the COC Power Potion is now active.

Tactical Usage :

Use it in Emergency situations like the Clan Wars or the CWL.

3. Resource Potion:

This hasty potion can magically boost all the resource collectors.
This potion lasts 24 hours.
It’s the longest-serving potion in the game in terms of working-time.
It works in both villages i.e., Home and Builder Base villages.
It was added in the June 2019 update.

How to Use Resource Potion in COC?

Once you’re ready, follow these instructions to use COC Resource Potion:

As above – select your Town Hall building.
Select Magic Items.
Choose the Power Potion option.
Tap the Use button and confirm the Boost Production
Hurrah!! The potion is now activated.

Tactical Usage :

When you are off for a day and needed to upgrade any troop, take help from this potion to mine some useful resources.

4. Training Potion:

This highly energetic potion boosts all army buildings like Barrack, Dark Barracks, Spell and Dark Spell factories, and Heroes of course.
The potion works for 1 hour.
Best for farming with Super Goblins.
It works in Home Village only.
Maximum available slot in the Town Hall : 5/5

How to Use Training Potion in COC?

Follow the given instructions below to use COC Training Potion:

First, you need to select the Town Hall building.
Choose Magic Items option.
Select the Training Potion by tapping on its icon in green.
Tap the Use button and confirm ‘Use Training Potion’ prompt.
It’s now activated and you better start farming now.

Tactical Usage :

Farming
Saves your day from the wrath of your beloved leader in case you finally made it to the game but at the last minute hassle.

5. Builder Potion:

This potion is exclusively brewed by the Builder himself in case of Emergency.
The potion allows the builders to work 10x faster, saving you 9 hours on each builder.
This potion works for 1 hour.
It works in Home Village only.
It was added in the March 2018 update.

How to Use Builder Potion in COC?

It’s super easy to use Builder Potion in COC. Just follow the steps summarized below.

Find your Town Hall building on the base and tap on it.
Select the fifth option in Magic Items.
Choose the Builder Potion Icon in green.
Select the use option on the bottom left and confirm ‘Speed Up Builders’ prompt.
That’s all you need to do to activate the potion.

Tactical Usage :

Use this potion when all the builders are at work.
If an important building(s) can make a difference or strengthen your chances in Wars, use this potion so that the building upgrade finishes just before the battle day begins.

6. Clock Tower Potion:

This potion helps the Clock Tower work extra time.
This potion works for half an hour.
It works in Builder Base Village only.
Maximum available slot in the Town Hall : 5/5

How to Use Clock Tower Potion in COC?

It’s not rocket science to use the Clock Tower Potion in COC. The steps are as follows.

Navigate to your Night Base, i.e., the Builder Base.
Tap on the Builder Hall main building.
Select the second option in Magic Items.
Find your Clock Tower Potion in light pink.
Select the use button down below and confirm the ‘Boost Builder Base’ prompt.
You’re all done. Now your Clock Tower potion is on
Alternatively, you can also click on the Clock Tower building and select the Clock Tower Potion and confirm the use of the potion.

Tactical Usage :

Use the potion when you Master Builder (and O.T.T.O, if unlocked) and the research lab are active at their respective work.

7. Hero Potion:

This potion temporarily but magically adds +5 levels to all the unlocked Heroes and Pets. Of course, the levels of your Heroes and Pets can’t exceed the allowed number determined by the Town Hall building installed on the base.
The potion lasts 1 hour.
The potion can be used in both the villages. No issues at all.

This potion became part of Clash of Clans in the December 2018 update.

How to Use Hero Potion in COC?

Provided you have some Hero Potion left in the tank, follow the steps below:

Tap on either the Town Hall or the Builder Hall building.
You will see the Magic Items option there. Tap on it.
Find your Hero Potion in red. Select it.
On the bottom left you will see the Use button. Press the use button.
You will be prompted with the Boost Heroes option. Confirm it when you’re ready.
That’s how you do it.

8. Research Potion:

Wow!! The laboratory has mysterious Wizards inside of it and we didn’t know it. That’s what the description says at least. The potion enables the Wizards inside the lab to research 24x faster, saving us 23 hours.
This potion lasts for 60 minutes but you would feel like it saved you a day.
It works in both villages i.e., Home and Builder Base villages.
Maximum available slot in the Town Hall/Builder Hall: 5/5

How to Use Research Potion in COC?

We read about the Research Potion but now we will see how it can be used. Follow the below instructions to use Research Potion in COC:

Select the Town Hall or Builder Hall main building.
One of the options you will see is ‘Magic Items’. Select it.
You will soon see Research Potion in purple.
Select the Use button and confirm ‘Speed Up Research’ option.
The potion will now start working.
